You know those hugs goodbye where you know why your hugging, and that it should be brief because the longer you hold that person the harder it will be to leave. But the minute his arms are wrapped around you, and yours around him you never want to leave. He squeezes you tight and you know that he is fighting the same battle inside to walk away after another summer of growing closer together, but still knowing you two can’t be together yet because you’re both not ready, so you remain the best of friends. Then you finally say I need to go, he gives you one last squeeze, a kiss on the cheek and watches you walk out the door, back to occasional texts, phone calls, skype chats and short visits in your hometown, back to missing your best friend. Here’s to another amazing summer with you under the stars on the flatbed of your truck listening to the thunder and watching the lightening enjoying each others company drinking a few coors, and talking about our futures, and your love of rodeo. Here’s to our 4th year of college. Here’s to the future. I’ll miss you buddy and will always love you cowboy even if now we can’t be together.
